Persona 3 Portable HD Texture Pack Community Expansion (WIP) [Updated 12/16/2021]

So I currently decided to take the Love Hotel Textures I dumped a while ago and begin matching them with FES textures and there's couple things I would like to note. First is that colors don't quite match since in early Full moon dungeons it seems FES possibly used a regular screen filter to change colors while PSP just recolored textures. (https://imgsli.com/Mzg4ODc ) Which means it would require to recolor most of the textures to match the PSP look.

Secondly place is strewn with bunch of Classical paintings and it might be possible to tinker with those textures to get slightly higher res versions into game. However I've been unable to find sources for some of them.

Anyway what I'm wondering is if anyone's here good at color altering and matching images.

The link for your FES/PSP comparison seems to be dead, but this is super interesting. A while back I did find two of the paintings used for the Clamside Shell Inn, but you've found those and then some. For what it's worth, I can play around with giving the FES textures the PSP tinting. Unless i've mistaken, i've found and replaced a few textures that we haven't gotten into the main pack yet, although they're mostly very disconnected. (i.e. specifically the ground of the fight against Nyx Avatar, and the heart background of the second Clamside Shell Inn boss fight). I'll admit, i've been a tad hesitant about it because it's pretty disorganized.

Aside from that, I took a shot at putting together blinking expressions for certain portraits without them, by shamelessly editing parts of blink expressions from other portraits of the same character. Funny enough, in certain cases (after double checking obviously) I didn't have to make edits at all, like Takaya's face when holding his gun is the exact same as one of his other portraits, and maintains the same color/alignment even, so I had to do nothing except make sure the blinking wasn't obscuring it.

Looks great. I don't quite have time to test it out, but I trust that the crops you did are correct. Also, I won't be using the 1x1 blank images since they can cause issues at certain rendering resolutions and/or on certain devices. Either way, the current blank images are still too small to matter. Also, were any of the portraits edited or were they just left in for testing?

The maps are very useful. I wasn't even aware that the game doesn't render the entire map texture on screen. The K.O. symbol for the dungeon HUD is also really good. Otherwise, the remaining textures seem to be a bit lower quality than the existing ones. The cleaner line work makes me partial towards those, sorry.

Wow! That's gonna take me a while to sift through. Looks pretty good though. Be careful you aren't replacing textures with other textures of the same size (like 00000000994c742ce5b21951 for example).

Thanks for the post-final boss background fix. Looks good. I cropped it down to size, but that shouldn't cause any issues.
The blink portraits look great, with the sole exception of Maiko's Mom, which is still acceptable. I'll probably have a patch for this once version 2.2 releases.
The glow effect looks much better, thank you. Also, thanks for the red variant.

Be careful you aren't replacing textures with other textures of the same size

The full scale portraits I leave in for testing, cause I use it to align it with Blinking frame above it and as I'm deleting bits from blink frame It helps me to quickly see if both are playing nice with each other. I am not tweaking any of full portraits.

As for not using the wrong textures I do try to be careful, but on a big scale it's always possible I'll make a mistake somewhere.

I made most of my edits to the Clamside Shell Inn textures that you provided, hashed some more, and remade some others by editing the FES textures you provided (i.e. the room "previews" right next to the front desk. I should say btw, the Tartarus folder has my updated textures and hashes now, as does the Hotel folder.

Here are some effects too. These are decidedly not upscaled. For whatever reason, Portable has a habit of using a decent quality base texture for something, and deciding to use a shrunken copy of that exact same texture elsewhere. For these, I replaced the shrunken copies with whatever Portable's "original" version is for a higher resolution.

I have reached and hashed Bunker Dungeon and its battlefield (same case as Hotel with non matching colors), I also got Bunker Boss's PSP Textures and FES equivalents that need to be edited.

I'm a little surprised myself at the turnover rate, but I've finished my edits for what you have for the Bunker already. It's in the Scenarios link from my last reply, just like Tartarus and the Clamside Shell Inn. I also fixed a small error I made with the Inn's stairs (it apparently uses an unfiltered copy in addition to the filtered ones).

Is there any chance you would mind putting up a comparison for your edits? Thanks to Arc, I realized that this is a thing:

It lets you basically slide between a pair of images to see what exactly changed. That being said, the pupils/eye highlights being fixed pops right out at me in a moment's glance. It reminds me of how much I missed them lol.

Oh man, having those comparisons puts it into perspective. I already plopped your stuff in on my end, but it's funny to look back and see just how much Takaya's eyes and beard were smeared. Ditto for the outlines and...Junpei's teeth, apparently.

It's not really too worthy of another comparison, but I edited the ini so Fortune *actually* uses its FES textures from the folder now, made a small fix for Priestess, and got started on the Hanged Man.

Shinji's Bus Stop Sign texture was changed between FES and Portable. I have hashed it but that one needs editing.

I still am missing some of the FES textures since I didn't find them in "Weapons" folder of models.


EDIT: @TridentOfAbyss I just realized Credits Visuals Folder is missing Male MC and Male Orpheus variant, since back when I provided credits font and credits texture dump I had FEMC playthrough going. So Male route credits textures need ripping and upscaling...
