If its a new iPad 4, it must be on iOS 6.0.1. Could you check that?

You can jailbreak almost every version of iOS 6.xx.
You won't lose your warranty. I have an iPad 4 and it's jailbroken since I got it. Never had to restore it or something, because the "evasion Jailbreak" is really safe.

Should you have troubles with your iPad and want to send it to Apple so they can repair it, all you have to do is restore it via iTunes. All data will be deleted and they won't be able to see whether that device was jailbroken or not. Smile

Without a jailbreak, you won't be able to play every game you want because of the restrictions mentioned by daxtsu.
