Using 13.4 drivers? It seemed to help the other user with a Radeon 6xxx series card.

PPSSPP Modern Testbed:-
Intel Core i5 4690K @ 4.0 GHz
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 760 2GB GDDR5 VRAM @ 1138/6500 Mhz

Windows 7 x64 SP1

PPSSPP Ancient Testing Rig:-
Intel Core 2 Duo T9550 @ 2.8GHz
ATI Mobility Radeon 4670 1GB GDDR3 VRAM @ 843/882 MHz
8 GB DDR3 RAM @ 1066 MHz

RE: PPSSPP Crashing AMD Legacy Drivers Windows 7
This is a thread dig and a half, but after googling this problem, finding this and fixing then fixing it, I thought I'd post.

Using AMD Radeon HD 7770. Using 13-12 drivers, PPSSPP bluescreened my computer every time when 3D graphics was involved (after a string of a dozen "windows has recovered from a graphics crash" notifications).

Found this thread, couldn't find Catalyst A.I. from the settings at all.

Downgraded back to my old drivers 12-6 (oh boy is is downgrading AMD drivers a hassle and a half). Catalyst A.I. found in Catalyst Control Center -> Gaming -> 3D application settings -> Catalyst A.I., set it to "performance" and unticked "Enable Surface Format Optimization"

And bam, problem solved. Well, I don't know was downgrading the drivers good enough, I was too tired of the BSODs at that point to check. Now my computer complains about a dozen missing .exe files at boot, and there's no reference to any of them anywhere (registry or startup). I'm guessing CCC tries to start them for some reason?

The funny thing is, there used to be a "clean AMD driver removal tool" but after it was found to utterly destroy Windows8 installations, they removed the tool. Entirely. And nobody else is hosting it anywhere, EVERY place just links to AMD pages which just 404s you. So even Windows7 users are out of luck and I guess I'll just have to live with those errors. Upgrading AMD drivers, never again.

What ATI/AMD graphics card do you have? You listed your CPU, but we need to know your exact GPU model.

1. If you have a modern DX11+ card (Radeon 5000/6000/7000/8000/Rx 2xx series), updating to the latest drivers should work.

2. If you have a Legacy DX10 card (Radeon 2000/3000/4000), follow the instructions in this post.

In both cases, disable Catalyst A.I. in the Catalyst Control Panel and also ensure that Enable Surface Format Optimization is disabled.

Sorry, that's the Catalyst Control Center. It's installed together with the drivers during installation, and you should be able to access it from the right click menu on the desktop.

Or try searching for it in the search box located in the start menu.

The options should be easily found in the CCC.

Here's a guide to the AMD CCC if you've never used it before.

RE: PPSSPP Crashing AMD Legacy Drivers Windows 7
Okay so ive managed to find CCC. Opened it. BUT the options Catalyst A.I is missing and i cant find the enable surface format optimization. PLs bear with me i wanna play ppsspp Sad oh and sir solarmystic its just about hydragrid, desktop manager cpu power. No catalyst ai and surface format optmzation.

the choices are only: Pinned, Presets, Hydravision, Performance, and power. Is there something wrong? i think the choices in my CCC is lacking Sad

What's available under Performance? Try expanding all the available options.

You're using a desktop Radeon 5770 right? Every option should be available to you in the CCC, afaik it's only the mobile/laptop versions of the CCC that are gimped (i.e. no overclocking options and some other options are missing)

Can you post screenshots of what it looks like for you? I'm using ATI Tray Tools (a CCC replacement), so it's different for me.

@cedopow

Don't give up just yet. There may yet be an alternative.

Try downloading and installing ATI Tray Tools (which exposes those options, especially for Catalyst A.I. which is the only one you need to disable).

Very interesting, it seems like the GPU section for the CCC is missing. It could be because you have an AMD CPU as well.

Have you tried installing ATI Tray Tools as I suggested at the end of my previous post?

It takes a while to open it (it's a .NET application), you should see this icon on your tray menu (next to the clock on the taskbar) while it is loading:-

When it is done loading, right click on the icon, and by referring to this image, disable Catalyst A.I.:-

RE: PPSSPP Crashing AMD Legacy Drivers Windows 7
Keep the Catalyst A.I at Quality or High Quality and Untick Enable Surface Format Optimization.'

EDIT:- I see you've already done that, never mind.

EDIT2:- I'm not sure what else to recommend for you if it still crashes.

EDIT3:- One last thing you can do. Download this zipped atioglxx.dll driver file, download this 32bit version of PPSSPP from the buildbot, unzip and paste the .dll file into the unzipped 32bit version's ppsspp folder, run ppsspp, and try those games again. They should work.
