Was running 100% fine, now all games have extreme lag
Last night I downloaded and installed the PPSSPP and started playing Birth by Sleep, and got a couple worlds in, and this morning I woke up and started to play and the game lags extremely.

My graphics card is an AMD Radeon HD 6520, and I am running it on Windows 7 (64-bit)

Is that a laptop GPU? Make sure your laptop is plugged into a power source (AC power) and that you have your power plan set to Max Performance when using PPSSPP. Keep in mind your laptop might heat up more because of using Max Performance. If it's not that, have you changed any of the default settings?

It is plugged in and on Max Performance, and still runs at about 50%. I didn't change any of the settings over night, and tried tweaking them. What should they be on?

Well, the defaults usually provide a good mixture of speed and compatibility, but perhaps take a walk through the performance guide and see if anything is amiss. If it's still bad after that, I'd make sure you have the Catalyst AI disabled in your GPU control panel. It tends to be picky with PPSSPP.

First thing to try if you haven't is to reboot the machine completely.

Also a valid suggestion.

I've searched all around the GPU panel and I can't find a way to disable the AI. Where can I find it?

I don't want to lead you astray here, so I'll yield until someone like solarmystic drops by. He's more knowledgeable about ATI/AMD than I am.

Dont know if this help you but I tell you something. Long ago I have similiar problem with games, and emulators, sometimes after night when I ON my laptop I got strange slowdowns while using emulators/games. Restart the PC helped, but I search for issue... and I found it. My problem was, one of services in task menager didnt start, and this resulted in slowdowns/lag in emulators and games.

You can always check it and try, maybe it will work for you or not.

1. Run task menager->Services->Services (on the bottom)
2. Check if services: COM+ Event System and COM+ System Applications, are set to Automatic.

In my issue only one of those service was running and that was making slowdowns and lag on my laptop Win7 64bit, but after I set both to "Automatic" 1 year has passed and no lag/slowdowns. Try it, maybe it will help or not.

@maxmetalero

(Early mornin' today.)

Re: The Catalyst A.I. option, AFAIK in the newer AMD CCC versions, the option has been renamed to Disable Surface Format Optimzation instead of Catalyst A.I.

But back to your slowdown issue, to get a much more in depth look at the problem (and to confirm the reasons behind the slowdown), I recommend that that you get the following pieces of hardware monitoring software just to be sure:-

1. GPUz

2. CPUz

You haven't provided your CPU model/brand (it does seem like an AMD APU though given that the GPU is an integrated card), but as for the GPU, the AMD Radeon HD 6520 has a 400 MHz clockspeed when in high performance mode.

You can confirm whether or not its a GPU/CPU failing to clock up issue by opening both GPUz and CPUz simultaneously.

For GPUz,having a look at the Sensor tab which will provide the relevant information, for CPUz the first tab will show you whether or not your CPU is clocking itself up appropriately. Both readings should be taken when a game is running on the emulator of course.

PPSSPP Modern Testbed:-
Intel Core i5 4690K @ 4.0 GHz
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 760 2GB GDDR5 VRAM @ 1138/6500 Mhz
16 GB DDR3 RAM @ 1600 MHz
Windows 7 x64 SP1

PPSSPP Ancient Testing Rig:-
Intel Core 2 Duo T9550 @ 2.8GHz
ATI Mobility Radeon 4670 1GB GDDR3 VRAM @ 843/882 MHz
8 GB DDR3 RAM @ 1066 MHz
Windows 7 x64 SP1
