About your last bit, Cloud:

There are varying degrees of accuracy. Accurate doesn't necessarily mean no hacks at all; if for example you can get the same effect with a hack that has no bad effects, but increases performance 20%, there's no reason not to do it, unless you're aiming for "pure" code, or perhaps if it makes your code unreadable.
