Guide:- Maximizing the performance of PPSSPP on your Android/Windows device.

RE: Guide:- Maximizing the performance of PPSSPP on your Android/Windows device.
Updated the guide to account for the Antialiasing option being taken out (replaced by manually adjusting the Rendering Resolution higher than the window size to get a higher image fidelity provided by downsampling) and the seperation of the Window Size and Rendering Resolution options since v0.9.1-752-g2745744

PPSSPP Modern Testbed:-
Intel Core i5 4690K @ 4.0 GHz
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 760 2GB GDDR5 VRAM @ 1138/6500 Mhz
16 GB DDR3 RAM @ 1600 MHz
Windows 7 x64 SP1

PPSSPP Ancient Testing Rig:-
Intel Core 2 Duo T9550 @ 2.8GHz
ATI Mobility Radeon 4670 1GB GDDR3 VRAM @ 843/882 MHz
8 GB DDR3 RAM @ 1066 MHz
Windows 7 x64 SP1

RE: Guide:- Maximizing the performance of PPSSPP on your Android/Windows device.
I don't get it. How do I change settings in order to have the same effect as if Antialiasing would be active? Taking out Antialiasing has ruined one of my favorite games (it needs buffered rendering and that causes blurred graphics if Antialiasing is not active).

By the way, simply setting it to 2x render resolution does change nothing.

Testing PPSSPP on:

iPhone 5, iOS 7.0.4
iPad 4, iOS 7.0.4

ASUS Notebook
Windows 8 64-Bit
8GB RAM, Intel Core i7 processor @ 2,3 GHz
nVidia Geforce GT 635M 2GB

If you're on Windows:-

Select a Rendering resolution that is twice the size of the window size/native resolution (if playing in fullscreen)

E.g. Window size = 2x, Rendering Resolution = 4x.

If on Android:-

Select 4x Rendering Resolution to get the same effect as Antialiasing. Buffered Rendering needs to be on as usual.

RE: Guide:- Maximizing the performance of PPSSPP on your Android/Windows device.
that way we are limited to x2 window size then... cause for x3 size we need x6 resolution...

@burna91 cant you force AA from gpu drivers?

@iakoboss7

I'm aware of that limitation. It has already been noted on the github, with a request to increase the maximum rendering resolution here:-

https://github.com/hrydgard/ppsspp/issues/3724

Ideally, we should have an Autox2 option which should offer the same solution as the previous AA one.

Also, AA (except for FXAA) can't be forced from gpu drivers unless you turn off Buffered Rendering. Which is a problem since quite a number of games need Buffered Rendering to work properly.

PPSSPP Modern Testbed:-
Intel Core i5 4690K @ 4.0 GHz
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 760 2GB GDDR5 VRAM @ 1138/6500 Mhz
16 GB DDR3 RAM @ 1600 MHz
Windows 7 x64 SP1

PPSSPP Ancient Testing Rig:-
Intel Core 2 Duo T9550 @ 2.8GHz
ATI Mobility Radeon 4670 1GB GDDR3 VRAM @ 843/882 MHz
8 GB DDR3 RAM @ 1066 MHz
Windows 7 x64 SP1

Updated the guide to account for the addition of Low quality spline/bezier curves since v0.9.1-1201-g2b66a85.

Enable the option for a speed boost in games that use those features.

PPSSPP Modern Testbed:-
Intel Core i5 4690K @ 4.0 GHz
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 760 2GB GDDR5 VRAM @ 1138/6500 Mhz
16 GB DDR3 RAM @ 1600 MHz
Windows 7 x64 SP1

RE: Guide:- Maximizing the performance of PPSSPP on your Android/Windows device.
Hmm that option to set the rendering resolution is definitely a speed boost for games that require buffered rendering.

Before they were always rendered at at least 3x(on 1024x768 screen)and that's why the speed goes down when you go full screen or maximize the window.
Now when I force 2x,everything is the same as without buffered rendering and the quality is almost the same.

BTW is the "Force 60 FPS or less" option good enough now to be enable by defaults(it wasn't before)
I think I encounter some games that don't like that option

Using PPSSPP on Windows 7 x64 SP1
i7 4771 3.5Ghz,GTX750TI,16GB RAM

RE: Guide:- Maximizing the performance of PPSSPP on your Android/Windows device.
@vsub

AFAIK, the "Force 60 FPS or less option" is still recommended only on a game by game basis, which is why the written advice in the guide remains unchanged. An example of a game that hates it is Gundam Vs Gundam Next Plus, which behaves erratically with it on. There could be others out there, which is why I hesitate to keep it on all the time globally.

On an unrelated note, updated the guide to reflect the introduction of the FXAA option which only offers a very minor performance increase by disabling it since FXAA is pretty cheap for the graphical enhancement it offers and is disabled by default.

PPSSPP Modern Testbed:-
Intel Core i5 4690K @ 4.0 GHz
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 760 2GB GDDR5 VRAM @ 1138/6500 Mhz
16 GB DDR3 RAM @ 1600 MHz
Windows 7 x64 SP1

PPSSPP Ancient Testing Rig:-
Intel Core 2 Duo T9550 @ 2.8GHz
ATI Mobility Radeon 4670 1GB GDDR3 VRAM @ 843/882 MHz
8 GB DDR3 RAM @ 1066 MHz
Windows 7 x64 SP1

You have to post on the Game's Thread. Also, try the latest build Here first then follow the guide on the First post.

Anyway, since you are new to the forum, you should visit the Welcome Thread! Smile
