RE: Increasing quality in games.
Turn off Buffered Rendering, sometimes it gives me more vps sometimes it drops the vps, just try it...

turning of hardware transform slows the emu down. At least for me..

hardware transform helps with speed a lot.

If you're running on Windows, you can force AA if you have buffered rendering off(sure would be nice if it worked with BR on!), making 3D games look much more crisp, at the cost of possible slowdowns and graphical glitches.

Forced 32x CSAA:

No AA:

To force AA? You shouldn't need a super power PC, no, but when forcing AA, it's logical to expect some degree of performance loss if your PC can't keep up; the more you force, the more performance you lose. Just disable it or turn it down if the performance loss is too great.

Oh, and if your GPU supports FXAA, you can enable/force that to get an AA-like effect even with BR on, though it's not quite as crisp as forcing other AA types.

With FXAA:

RE: Increasing quality in games.
Graphics:

- Hardware Transform: On
- Vertex Cache: On
- Stream VBO: Off
- Mipmapping: On/Off (Doesn't affect the perfomance, some games need it to be Off to work properly)
- Display Raw Framebuffer: Off
- Buffered Rendering: Off
- Force Nearest Filtering: Off
- Force Linear Filtering: On (If you see textures pixelated, doesn't affect perfomance)
- Anisotropic Filtering: 16x
- Vps Limit: Off
- Frame Skipping: 1

If you are getting low VPS with these settings then turn Buffered Rendering On (The game will look uglier but it will be faster, sometimes turning Buffered Rendering off gives a a little more speed, only for some games), but it also depends of your device resolution, if you have a low resolution then you will get more VPS even if Buffered Rendering is Off.

System:

- Dynarec (JIT): On
- Fast Memory: On (Only if it doesn't crash the game you will play)

Audio:

- Enable Sound: If you are getting good VPS with the previous setting then turn it On.
- Atract3+ Sound: If you don't hear all the sounds and you are getting good VPS then turn it on. (It consumes lots of CPU).

Test

With the previous settings I get these VPS:

- DBZ Shin Budokai 2: 48 - 52 VPS while fighting, 60 FPS with Menus, Stories etc... (There is a decrease of 3 - 5 VPS with sound enabled and At3+)
- Wipeout Pulse: 15 - 22 VPS while racing, 35 - 45 FPS with menus. (There was only a difference of 2 VPS with sound enabled and At3+)
- DBZ Tenkiaichi Tag Team: 24 - 35 VPS while fighting, 30 - 48 VPS with Menus. (There was only a difference of 2 - 3 VPS with sound enabled and At3+)
- Persona 3: 18 - 27 VPS while fighting, 29 - 36 VPS while explorin Tartarus (Surprisingly it gives -7 VPS if Buffered Rendering is On) 28 - 60 VPS with Menus, Stories, etc... (It depends how much it is showing) (There was no difference with sound enabled and At3+)

Having Buffered Rendering On gives more VPS but it will look worse, so is up to you.

I tested these games with a Lenovo S2109 with 1GB Ram, 1Ghz Dual Core, PowerVr 540SGX.

Anisotropic Filtering affect the performance or not?

Phones: Poco F3 8GB/256GB (Snapdragon 870 5G) and Redmi Note 6 Pro 4/64GB (Snapdragon 636)

PC: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 / 16GB RAM DDR4 3600MHz / NVIDIA GTX 1660 Ti 6GB / Windows 10 Pro

Zero performance impact on Windows. Should be 16x AF all the time.

I'm not sure about Android/iOS/Symbian. Could be significant on weaker GPUs.

PPSSPP Modern Testbed:-
Intel Core i5 4690K @ 4.0 GHz
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 760 2GB GDDR5 VRAM @ 1138/6500 Mhz
16 GB DDR3 RAM @ 1600 MHz
Windows 7 x64 SP1

PPSSPP Ancient Testing Rig:-
Intel Core 2 Duo T9550 @ 2.8GHz
ATI Mobility Radeon 4670 1GB GDDR3 VRAM @ 843/882 MHz
8 GB DDR3 RAM @ 1066 MHz
Windows 7 x64 SP1

RE: Increasing quality in games.
A slight update to this, it seems like in really recent revisions(I don't know when exactly it started, but I tested on 8.1-642), for NVidia cards at least, you can force AA with buffered rendering on now(focus on Miku):

No AA, no 2x SSAA: https://i.minus.com/iTzbCUv7KOwIt.png
Forced 32x CSAA, no 2x SSAA: https://i.minus.com/iclABcwu5Arkc.png
Forced 32x CSAA + 2x SSAA option in PPSSPP: https://i.minus.com/ik3oBQdBAVInv.png

The images are huge, hence why I didn't tag them..
