damaged PSP, transfer saves?

Hello! dont worry i know how to find games. this isnt my first emulator lol
ALSO: i LOVE PPSSPP! thank you for all your hard work its great!

ANYWAY. im using my PC, and id like to transfer my old saves/downloaded games from my PSP, to my PC. However, my old PSP ended up sitting in laundry soap for over a week a couple years ago (dont ask, very long story) inside its carrying case. anyway, it still turns on, but the screen no longer works. but it still charges and the little LEDs still turn on, and blink, etc.
is it possible to still get them off of there? my PC doesnt even recognize that theres a PSP plugged into it. do i have to take out the SD card and just get an adaptor for it?
do i have to get a "new" PSP and try it that way? is it an exercise in fuitility?
please help! and please explain it to me like im an idiot. my software knowledge stat isnt very high.
