Question In-game font
I played Monster Hunter Freedom Unite and I discovered that there are different fonts which are used in-game according to the version of PPSSPP I used.

In ppsspp-v0.7.5-106-gc00fa37-windows-x86, I can see this font :
[Image: 546791ppssppv075106gc00fa37windowsx86.png]

But in PPSSPP_2013_4_18 (oioitff's build), I can see this font :

The second one is better because this is the same font that you can see when you play the game on a real PSP !
So, why does the weird font (like you can see in my first image) is used in the latest builds ?

RE: In-game font
The first font is from the JPCSP team and is guaranteed legal to distribute. The second one is likely the font file from a real PSP. Of course if you have a real PSP you should be perfectly in your right to use the real font, but even so I don't believe we can legally distribute it with the emulator. Yeah, it's just a font, but not taking chances.

So if you want good fonts, just grab them from flash0/font on your real PSP and stick them in PPSSPP/flash0/font and you'll get them.

RE: In-game font

Yes, I have a real PSP, so now I know how to use the original font from Sony ! Wink

Thank you so much Henrik ! Smile

RE: In-game font
Yeah theres no need to take unnecessary risks. Nothing made by sony is included in the emulator and its best to keep it that way. Smile

I totally agree, but the possibility to use the original font if we have a real PSP is very cool ! Smile

RE: In-game font
Would there be a way to use true type fonts instead of texture based fonts? They should look relatively better especialy on bigger resolutions (vector magic). I could create a font set in true type that simulates Sony's official ones and there would be no copyright issue with Sony.
Also, is it just me or PSVita's emulator of PSP has more fornts than PSP itself on the /font directory? Weird!

RE: In-game font
Hello! Angel

Sorry for necro-ing but this thread seemed the most appropriate for this.

There's someone who commented on one of my vids saying, "Use PSP font mate..."

But reading this...:

...made me wonder.

My question is: Will it cause copyright infringement if I use the original font on PPSSPP and show it to the public?

I know it sounds trivial but better safe than sorry. Big Grin

RE: In-game font
If you ripped it from your own PSP, it'd be no different than making a video of gameplay via RemoteJoyLite (leaving aside PPSSPP's possible glitches and fast loading times) and showing it to people, so no.

RE: In-game font
No problem. I never heard of anyone ever getting in trouble over showing RJL videos, so I think you're fine. I guess they could get taken down in theory if Sony/Sega/whoever suddenly decided their game from the PSP era was too cool or whatever to be allowed to be streamed/recorded by the public, but at that point it certainly wouldn't be because of fonts.

RE: In-game font
I forgot how bulky these fonts are, lol! Big Grin

PSP FONT:

PPSSPP FONT:

Anyway, from my PSP, I also copied the files "arib.pgf," "gb3s1518.bwfon," and "imagefont.bin."

Are they necessary to be copied?
Because in the original PPSSPP font folder, those files are not included.
I'm not sure if I got them from converting my PSP to CFW. Huh

RE: In-game font
Probably not, but I moved everything from the PSP's font folder to PPSSPP's and have had no problems.
