PS_Emu on PlayStore (PPSSPP ripoff)
There is a new app on the Google Playstore called PS_Emu.

It´s a ripoff of PPSSPP just with another icon.

Yeah we know. He came on to IRC and asked for help with how to make the background black for his version.
He's hoping to make money from ads or something.

Isn't that a Licence Violation?

As long as he provides source code for his modifications (basically his ads), it's fine.

Why does he do that? Its bloated with ads by almost 1,4MB and really exactly the same. Looks like v1.0 is based on v0.7.5-3-gd1dbace.

RE: PS_Emu on PlayStore (PPSSPP ripoff)
It breaks several of the Google Play developer program policies though.

From the store:
Quote:What a scam
This app made toll calls and sent txts that cost 5$ each.

From Google:

Quote:Network Usage and Terms
Applications must not create unpredictable network usage that has an adverse impact on a user's service charges.

Spam and Placement in the Store
  • Do not post repetitive content.
  • Do not send SMS, email, or other messages on behalf of the user without providing the user with the ability to confirm content and intended recipient.

Heh, I don't think it actually sends SMS though, it doesn't have the permissions (see the Permissions tab on Google Play). It does want to know your location and your phone state for some reason though Tongue

Just ignore it.

People who do this are parasites.

I'm not sure how it works with Google Play but maybe someone should stick up the same thing up with no-ads and call it "PS-EMu" rather than "PS-eMu" and price it free.

This is a rather bad idea as it may get him angry, causing him to spam his rubbish all over the net, which would get us really angry, and we dont want a bloodbath, do we?
Just keeping it quiet and watching him now...
Edit: Also theres nothing harmful in his app. He only added a clunky ad engine.

RE: PS_Emu on PlayStore (PPSSPP ripoff)
I remember reportin this about two months back.. its open source so completely legal, "but lame to sell it " Henrik said it best... No coding talent that he needs to use other peoples work. As long as we all know who really put the effort in etc and donate to them, everything will be rosey..Smile
