Excuse me, did you use the emulator ePSXe? There if you have an OpenGL plug-in installed, you can during the game, click on the button and a small panel of games screen with games is displayed, on which there are a lot of buttons, and you can press the buttons to see what happened in real time. This panel will not clutter anything at all.
