A little tip.

Use original PSP fonts. They look way better.

Everything is Hitsuzen!

Thanks for the tip! I am assuming you mean for the maps? (There's one screenshot from a while ago where I tried a monster hunter-esque font).

I've had that feedback before and changed the numbers' font to match the original style. You could look at the other map screenshots since they were taken after the tweak.

Unless I am misunderstanding you and you mean the font somewhere else?

RE: Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD - HD Textures
He probably means system fonts, some games including MH use PSP system font for some things and since those fonts are copyrighted/part of PSP operating system/firmware PPSSPP can only ship free alternative - which looks differently, in many games causing problems due to size differences as can be seen here.

You can dump fonts from your PSP(if you have one), just need CFW to change USB device(in vsh menu) from memstick to flash0, then you can copy font and place it under \assets\flash0 in PPSSPP folder. It's very quick and easy, but doing so you have to remember to never remove the fonts from PSP itself(use copy not cut!) as it will brick it:].

If you're an artist, you could probably create prettier system fonts yourself, unfortunately we really don't have any decent tools to make PSP fonts and those which do exist end up doing some things wrong causing problems in games.:]

RE: Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD - HD Textures
@Luna and @Asferot, thanks for the clarification!

I do have a psp, but it is pretty much dead and even before that I believe I removed the CFW that was on it back in the day, sadly.
So unless someone does have access and wishes to play with those directly...

That said... YES I do like the idea of changing the fonts. E.g. on the photo where the name Julia and Yukumo egg pops up (that's the system font right?)
I've seen the font textures pop up once in a while with both regular (western) and japanese characters. I could look in to working with those and that would be a fun challenge!

@CuchiPol,
Well, I would suggest that you start small and figure out how you would like to help.
Do you have any experience with working with graphics? If so I can walk you through how to access the textures and the process of replacing them.
If you don't have experience with textures, graphics or fonts... well then there are a lot of tutorials out there on the internet, but then perhaps you would like to help in other ways?

There's a lot that need to be done:
- Getting the right resource icon to sit in the right spot on the maps. (The resource maps online seem to vary wildly in locations and seldomly line up when overlaid on the actual map)
- Getting a hold of high quality resource material to use in texturing. E.g. the icons that @kingvall are replacing are gotten from a high quality version of that icon and so he can more easily replace it.
- If you have access to the wii u version, there's the incredibly slow, laborious but ultimately (see what i did there) process of matching up the somewhat higher res imagery with that of the psp version.
- If you are more of a player and can do good video recordings, the project needs a good example vid or two or more to show what's happening. (I'm bad at conveying the changes in just flat images)
- PlayTesting! Find out what needs to be done still!
- List that stuff. I mean, there's a lot of stuff that I don't even know needs to be done and if we can get a good list of stuff to tackle that might give the project more structure

Anyway, the list goes on. So let me know what you are up for and I'll tell you what you are in for Wink

Ok... so... more playing around and I figure i was quite wrong about a couple of things.
First off... cannot replace fonts the old fashioned way of dumping the texture directly and replacing THAT...

The images get saved in a seemingly random ways every time i launch the game and i cant seem to isolate what makes em unique...

So... you guys mean replace system fonts... this is a bit outside of my ken and any help on how to make a custom font would be appreciated.

RE: Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD - HD Textures
Hello, I progress on the icons, for the moment I put in HD the big white icon (This show quest for example). I still have some icons to do because impossible to find them in HD I have to suddenly create them and see my talent is quite long ^^.

RE: Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD - HD Textures
@WonkoTheSane depends, if you want to create new font that could be shipped with PPSSPP that would match original psp font dimensions, but if possible be prettier I would say talking to [Unknown] might be the best way to go as he started creating some software for that and might as well be the best source of information about PSP fonts and might actually be interested in solving another old PPSSPP issue.:]
You could also look for some ancient software called TTF2PGF which does what it's name says, but fonts converted using it might be buggy, also I think it's a CLI tool(command line interface) and might not be too user friendly.
Custom font while could be prettier would still not be HD through or at least I don't think it could be.

I'm not looking at MHp3rd HD right now so not sure how the situation looks, but if the game builds a texture from system font, just places different number of characters each time you could just take the most complete of them for replacement and try using address and clut hash or even only clut hash, using wildcards for the stuff that changes, unless everything changes heh, I also saw a game which builds a completely different texture for every text box change, cases like that might be hopeless when it comes to replacement:c.
