Sorry for bringing this up with another post, but with no reply and I still can't figure out just 'how' the text problem was or is fixed and yet... I constantly have proof when I play the game that says otherwise.

Yes, the 3 items are 'off' in the settings mentioned in the quote above, so it isn't them. I've even installed the 9.9 release into it's own personal folder, separate from the one I actually use and it still has screwed up text.

So is there another setting that needs/has to be changed for it to have working text. Or did the fix for the text simply get overlooked and never added into 9.9?

RE: Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time
It's not that the "text was not added" or something.

I don't have this game, so I don't know what could be going wrong for you.

I think the missing text issue was a framebuffer sizing issue in throughmode, and last I heard the problem was gone. Any speedhack could definitely cause it not to work, but other than that I really don't know. The functional change that was reported to fix this game (by my recollection) is definitely part of v0.9.9 - there's no such thing as 9.9.

The emulator version is 9.9. I don't add the zero. It's a habit I have when it comes to various things that have versions marked with 0's. If it bothers you, sorry.

As for speedhacks, the only thing 'on' in the settings I have that I think would be a speedhack is maybe 'fast memory' and even turning that off doesn't do anything.

Though there is a weird setting called: simulate block transfer which is about the only thing I haven't tried.

All that said, I'm not trying to be a nuisance or anything.
It's just that it was mentioned that the text problem was fixed. It (at least for me) isn't and I'm simply trying to find out 'what' isn't cooperating.

And a week of playing with all the setting have surprisingly, done very little. Now's around the time I go to the "hit it and it should work" method, but that's not going work this time.

Can we get screenshots of the scenes affected by the text problem? Does it happen from the very beginning of the game?

RE: Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time
Sure. *figures out how to take a screenshot with the emulator*

There we go. And this at right at the start of the game. I can't in good judgment make 'good' decisions when some choices you make at the start... well you don't know what they are.

The first screenshot: lifting is misspelled 'liyting'.
The second one: fifteen is misspelled 'yiyteen'.

Honestly, it's quite amusing at first and if it's just a few words here and there, I could live with it but...

Third: This one speaks for itself
Fourth: ...quite unplayable seeing as 'nothing' is readable.
Past there... it only gets worse.

Yeah, the issue is as I suspected, the game does not work well with the fonts packaged with the emulator.

You'll have to get the original PSP fonts and place them into your ppsspp/flash0/font folder for the text in this game to work out. No other fixes are possible at the moment, unfortunately.

I can reproduce your issue if I swap back to the packaged fonts, but not with the original PSP fonts.

Here's what those screens look like with the original PSP fonts:-

RE: Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time
well... that's the first time I've been able to read the last two scenes. Alright then, I'll get and use the original fonts.

Thanks for the help.

RE: Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time
Hello, I updated to the latest version of ppsspp today, and while going through this game, a new issue popped up that didn't happen before. Also it wasn't mentioned in any of the previous posts/google search.

Anyway, some of the cutscenes started to "over lap" there is like some sort of twitching up top and the speed goes from 100% to about 76%. as I keep progressing on, you can see the previous scene underneath the current one...(also it should be noted, I could not "speed up" the game with throttle, the game % would increase, but it was still obviously playing at the same rate)

in the first image the graphics are blurry and weird, lots of shaking near the top

in the second image, If you look closely here, you can see the bed/bedroom from the previous scene in this one

in the third image you can see the girl is actually still in that same spot (even in that scene, that position didn't change and the sprite was still there)

in the fourth image going on to the next scene, you still see the bedroom, and actually some parts of the office now

I really don't know how to explain it so I hope the pictures help...

Edit: I solved all the problems, I went back to version 9.7 and it works perfectly again. I tried to keep playing with 9.9 version, but that slow down and overlap thing kept happening, specifically with every cut scene that wasn't a cut scene. (where they have fixed dialogue and motions and are just talking...its hard to explain... but it was happening often enough to warrant going back to 9.7)

Is there a fix for Android, or if nothing else a location to put the font files? I was able to fix it on my computer, but I can't figure out where the appropriate location (If there even is one).

RE: Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time
Put it under PSP/flash0/font. Don't put the fonts in ppsspp/flash0/font, actually, it's better to put them in Memstick/PSP/flash0/font on Windows, since this will survive upgrades better.

Basically, PPSSPP looks in Memstick/PSP/flash0/font first, and if it doesn't find it there, then it looks at ppsspp/flash0/font.

RE: Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time
I found a way to make the text readable on android

First you have to make a font folder on android ppsspp that's psp>flash0>font
And then instead of putting 1 font we have to put 3 that is jpn0,kr0 and ltno.pgf

I use the latest ppsspp for android v1.0.1
