Viewtiful Joe Red Hot Rumble

Playing with the official 1.0.1 version in Direct3D 9 mode (old laptop) there is a graphical problem with the game. Whenever a stage starts a black "net" like thing starts from the center and works its way out so that the whole screen background has an ugly black fishnet like graphic covering it (takes about 2 or 3 seconds). All other games I have played work fine, so I do not think it is my hardware.
