ppsspp slow on ION ?
I have an old Intel Atom dual core 330 with a Nvidia ION.
It runs linux (xbmcbuntu) and I've installed ppsspp on it.
It works but it's really slow, I've already tried all the possible settings to increase the performances but it's still slow.

The ppsspp version is v0.9.6-289-g9281fcc , tomorrow I will try to update to 0.9.8 to see if it works better.

Do you think the hardware is powerful enough or is just a waste of time?

Thank you.

RE: ppsspp slow on ION ?
Theoretically speaking the Atom 330 should be sufficient since Pentium 4 based machines (which are around the same ballpark in power) can run PPSSPP smoothly enough. Same goes for the NVIDIA ION which is just a rebranded NVIDIA 9400M.

It does depend on the games you're trying to run though. What games have you tried out? Some like God of War/Tekken 6 may be beyond what the machine is capable of. Every game has a different set of requirements for emulation.

Also, being on Linux may have an effect as well.

The performance of PPSSPP is heavily predicated on the vendor's graphics drivers and afaik NVIDIA's OGL drivers for Linux (as superior as they are versus AMD's for all OSes) are inferior to the ones they put out on Windows.

PPSSPP Modern Testbed:-
Intel Core i5 4690K @ 4.0 GHz
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 760 2GB GDDR5 VRAM @ 1138/6500 Mhz
16 GB DDR3 RAM @ 1600 MHz
Windows 7 x64 SP1

PPSSPP Ancient Testing Rig:-
Intel Core 2 Duo T9550 @ 2.8GHz
ATI Mobility Radeon 4670 1GB GDDR3 VRAM @ 843/882 MHz
8 GB DDR3 RAM @ 1066 MHz
Windows 7 x64 SP1

RE: ppsspp slow on ION ?
I will try to update the drivers as well, they are not the lates but since the chipset is quite old it shouldn't make any difference.

I've tried with Gran Turismo, tomb raider anniversary and burnout dominator. They all run slow

Thank you

RE: ppsspp slow on ION ?
Yeah, Gran Turismo is a bit too much for it, it's a heavily CPU limited game.

On my own antiquated Core 2 system for example (in signature), I can barely get 100% (60/60) Speed with default settings on the first track.

What you can try (as I've outlined in my performance guide) as a last resort is to change the emulated PSP's CPU Clock from the default value (0/222) to about 60 - 80 MHz.

This will increase the speed of emulation but will reduce the internal framerate of the game from 60 to 30, allowing your system to run it smoothly enough.

Mulithreading is also a great option for your Atom 330 system, since it's capable of Hyperthreading (2 cores / 4 threads).
