Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions

Acer A500, running ICS 4.0.3. Most settings freeze up with a rapidly flickering screen immediately after confirming my birthdate. I can get slightly past that with the following enabled:

Vertex Cache
Hardware Transform
Media Engine
Linear Filtering
Buffered Rendering

But in the first scene in the church, when the screen pans around to show Gafgarion entering, it freezes up and starts flickering. I have yet to make it past that point regardless of settings.
