Jeanne d'Arc

RE: Jeanne d'Arc
Hi everyone,
I'm new here, but was really hoping to see if I can get help on getting this game to run smoothly on my Galaxy S4.
So far, it loads up great, plays the intro movie fine, but when the actual character models and such show for the first time (a festival of some sort), the game kinda stutters. There's no noticeable glitches otherwise.
I'm running ppsspp with default settings. There's all sorts of "(speedup)" options to select, however, none seem to make any difference when rebooting (the emulator, not phone).

Any suggestions at all? If there are any particular screenshots needed in order to diagnose, I can provide.

Thanks again in advance!

RE: Jeanne d'Arc
Unfortunately, the current method of dealing with the way the characters are drawn is not extremely fast. There's probably not much but frameskipping that can help.

Another method of dealing with what the game is doing may be possible but it definitely won't work everywhere and may cause other glitches.

There's already a thread here:-
http://forums.ppsspp.org/showthread.php?tid=1237

And to answer your question, your device doesn't support OpenGL ES 3, which is required to fix the missing characters issue. The fix involves blitting, which is only supported by OpenGL 3.x/GL ES 3.0 at the moment.

Play it on a device/PC which supports the API, otherwise you're out of luck.

PPSSPP Modern Testbed:-
Intel Core i5 4690K @ 4.0 GHz
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 760 2GB GDDR5 VRAM @ 1138/6500 Mhz
16 GB DDR3 RAM @ 1600 MHz
Windows 7 x64 SP1

PPSSPP Ancient Testing Rig:-
Intel Core 2 Duo T9550 @ 2.8GHz
ATI Mobility Radeon 4670 1GB GDDR3 VRAM @ 843/882 MHz
8 GB DDR3 RAM @ 1066 MHz
Windows 7 x64 SP1

I think your tablet's drivers need to expose the functionality to the emulator as well, otherwise it wouldn't work too. What tablet did you test it on?

@chitnhau

It means that although your tablet's hardware may support it intrinsically via the feature set, if your drivers don't tell the OS/PPSSPP that it has GLES 3.0 support, PPSSPP will never be able to use that functionality.

The only way to fix that situation is to update those drivers to the latest ones (if any), and on Android, I don't think it's as simple as doing it on the PC with an Intel/AMD/NVIDIA graphics card. Usually it involves updating the entire OS version/firmware to a newer one. I might be wrong on this, though.

RE: Jeanne d'Arc
You're pretty much correct. If it's like Linux, drivers can be either statically linked into the kernel itself, meaning an entire OS upgrade would be required for non-custom ROMs, or included as modules, but these drivers tend to be proprietary and closed source on Android (they are on a PC too, but you have the freedom of upgrading them or downgrading them whenever you like, on Android, you do not if you're not rooted), so there's not really an easy avenue of upgrading them like you can on a PC.

4GHz AMD 3900X, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 6GB Nvidia RTX 2060, Asus Crosshair 7 Hero (Wifi), Linux

Jeanne D'Arc FMV Sound Lag / FPS drops / Text run-on
I'm glad to see that the invisible models/text was fixed, but it seems this game is going to be fully playable without a fight! I haven't seen anyone anywhere mention these issues, so I figured I'd put them in the spotlight.
I'm using the ppsspp 0.9.8 build, with the US copy of Jeanne D'Arc. First up is the FMVs. The sound lags about a second or 2 behind the animation. Otherwise, it's great. Onto bigger issues, outside of the cutscenes, the FPS drops sharply. Frameskip doesn't seem to do much, and in battles, it's unbearble, making the game pretty much un-playable. Another big issue that hurts the experience pretty badly is the fact that the text is unformatted. I've never ran across this before with any other emulator or game, but whether it's dialogue or not, text either runs on into other text or icons(i.e. battle tutorials/menus, cutscene skip) or words run on to other lines, without proper line breaks.(i.e. Dialogue boxes) I know I'm not the only one eagerly waiting for the day this game becomes fully playable, so I figured I'd shed some light onto these game-breaking issues. Will post screenshots if requested.
