PPSSPP crashes during setup

I hadn't used PPSSPP in a while, and when I started it up yesterday, it crashed just a second or two after launching. I'm not sure why it's doing this, and I'm not sure if it's a Windows update or something else, for the reasons listed below:

1.) Launched the 32-bit executable, which produced the identical results but continued to function for a few seconds longer.
2.) Uninstalled, downloaded, and reinstalled the latest version of PPSSPP; same results.
3.) I downloaded and unpacked the portable version; the same results occurred again.

Surely, something external is causing these crashes, but I can't think of any valid hints as to what it could be, and I'm not going to bother looking for a cure until I know what the problem is. Nothing essential, but I'd prefer to get it done sooner rather than later, when I'll be able to devote more time to it.
