RE: What's the Difference(s) Between Gold and Free?
it's better to have different versions of ppsspp for compatibility or extra/glitchy/but_valuable additional effects [normal nightly and old builds]

and everyone enjoying it must pay for very_complex_system with of which PPSSPP Team sacrificed their limited time for creating, developing, writing of it

feel free to try, play, configure normal/free version before you buy

and wish for a World, where all virtual/digital/CG software, video games, movies, books having these kind of two versions

RE: What's the Difference(s) Between Gold and Free?
Not just icon, colors in menu's and background as well as the additional links to buy PPSSPP in free version.
IMO color wise gold looks worse than blue. Either way treat it only as a voluntarily donation, functionally it's the same thing that doesn't have any difference hence if you have an issue you just write version of PPSSPP, no reason to write it's free or gold one as it's exactly same thing.

It is signed differently on android hence allowing 2 different versions to be installed at once which normally is not possible on that platform, however with the incoming future android version will have to keep things inside it's own folder(scoped storage), so the data between different versions will be separate and also uninstalling PPSSPP will most likely remove your data if you don't backup it, so the advantages for having different versions will be very slim in the future and if really needed, you could always just build your own PPSSPP version with whatever colors you want anyway and changed name to allow installing it as separate app, for example I keep my PPSSPP violet just to instantly see whenever I'm using my own or official builds and call it PPSSPP Luna to be able to install both separately.

In the end you can buy gold version it if you want to help, but there's no real reason to install it unless you actually like gold coloring(imo paiting things gold is just a bad taste, but it's subjective like most things), again, functionally it's the exact same thing.

With PPSSPP developement things break very rarely, while new features, improvements and fixes are made pretty much every day so unless you consider yourself very unlucky you'd always better of running nightly versions that are updated daily than a release or gold versions which get outdated the day they are released and continue to suffer from many already fixed bugs for anything between few months to a year whenever next version get's released and then, if people using daily builds didn't played some game which could be broken by some new changes those problems might stay until even further release. Overall it's better for the project and all it's users when more people are using daily builds.
