Maximixing performance on OSX Yosemite

Currently the only game I've been trying to play is Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow. However, the game regularly runs at 5-6 fps, occasionally catching up and running at full speed for a few seconds.

I'm running it on a mid-2010 MBP with an Intel Core 2 Duo and 4GB RAM with all other applications killed. I adjusted the settings based on the Windows performance thread with no success.
