It was removed because it caused issues in multiple games when disabled, and game compatibility should be better now than before. If you wanted it back for better performance, have you looked at the performance guide? There are many better options for increasing performance than bringing back a hack that cripples compatibility.

As far as "finding better ways" goes, I personally didn't code the MediaEngine stuff. I was simply stating the position we had on the hack at the time. It's not coming back.
