PPSSPP Locks upon ROM Load (LG Optimus G)

I have an LG Optimus G with PPSSPP downloaded from the Google Play Store and I have it updated to the latest version. Whenever I go to load a ROM (which is on a Micro SD card), the screen locks up with the background freezing in place. After about 20 seconds, the emulator will crash to the Home Screen. I am running PPSSPP on an AT&T LG Optimus G E970, but I have also had the same problem with a Virgin Mobile HTC Evo V. I have also been experiencing this problem across versions since 7.2. I can't remember the exact version, but it's been a while.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated,
