If the latter, note you can(and should) configure your controller in settings->controls->control mapping, where "+" add's new input, "X" removes existing one and pressing name of the existing input between those will allow to replace it.
If the screen looks confusing, just "Clear all" and map everything you want from 0.

of course I tried! I'm telling you guys that when I try to map a button, the button is wrongly recognised...It is a ppsspp bug.
