Nah, when you level up/deal damage the new hp you should get/damage you should deal is calculated, then compared to nice round value which is the cap, then runs different code depending on the result of the compare. It's pretty simple to understand, but assembly is not exactly made for humans to read, so without some experience you might not even recognize what you want to find.

This game does alot of bothersome checks, like checking hp cap when starting a fight, when entering menus etc. it feels soo random and unnecessary that I surely missed some things. However after finding where it doesn't work, it's not really complicated, just set a breakpoint to find what game does at that specific moment and change it.
