To convert a save folder, simply MAKE A BACKUP of it and RENAME from ULJM05500 to either ULUS10391 for [US] version or ULES01213 for [EU] version.
I'm not sure if this will work though. I've only tried from [EU] to [US] and vice versa but not with [JP].

About using the alt. speed trick, NO, YOU DO NOT NEED TO DO THIS SINCE v0.9.8-890.
