What's going on? Random stuff happening

So, I played Final Fantasy IV and all was going fine. Then, yesterday I opened the game, loaded it and started to play from where I had left it in the story. Now, the load state worked, and at least I could see everything fine, but when I clicked "S" that in the game is to open the menu, I instead get letters L & R at the top, at the very left and at the very right. So I tried to check the settings of the keyboard and all seems fine, no reason for errors according to me. But after trying to do this or that, now I can't even load the game with F5 (I had assigned the save feature to that key) and I have no clue what I did... any help?
