Devices with lower screen resolutions will perform better.

On my Adreno, for example, there's a huge difference between 1x and 2x. I only have a 720p screen. If I had a 1080p screen, "non buffered" rendering might be slower than 1x is with buffered rendering on. That's all about the fill rate. More pixels take more work to draw, and higher resolutions have more pixels.
