Transfering Save data/states from and older version

I was playing Final Fantasy Tactics on Version 9.1 but I'd like transfer that data to the new 9.8 version. I tried copying the data and pasting it into the new version same location but that didn't work, then I reopened the old version did a manual save (like one would do at a save point) onto the memory card and I can't seem to open that either, saying it can't find any save data for the game and/or can't load save state.

What should I do?
