This happened to me when I first tried playing the game on multiplayer too. For me, it was because I was using the non-HD ver iso of the game (Maybe it's because of some missing decrypted file in PAUTH needed to play multiplayer for non-HD version?).

Then I changed to HD ver iso and I didn't have the problem anymore. I could load into the gathering hall no problem
