Ok now item menu does crash for me as well. Also the crash when getting a quest seems to be random, I rushed through character creation and initial stuff using rapid fire and turbo and it still crashed like half of the time running fine, savestate made prior to talking to npc will not work as it already keeps the crashing element.

Well I found a workaround for both of those crashes or so I think:
- turn off JIT(in system>developer tools), start game, create your character, take a quest, you can enter the item menu at least once as well hopefully nothing will crash, but DON'T move anywhere yet(to avoid freezing the camera),
- make a savestate,
- turn the game off, and re-enable JIT,
- run the game and load your savestate. And for some reason it seems to work fine, can enter item menu, can talk with quest npc as well.
Extra warning: - Don't use savestates at all after loading a savestate made with jit off while jit is on, I would also advise not using cheat menu because both of those things clear/reset jit and it'll restore the crashing. Saying so I passed two missions without a problem like that.

Make sure to save the game normally after each mission as the trick with JIT off works only for starting the game normally, savestates made while jit was on will not be able to help at all, so if it starts crashing again you can only restore playability in this game when having normal save:].

Not sure how far this workaround can get us through.
   
   

Well can complete the quest at least for sure, don't have time to test more now, but this would seem a first quest done in this game on ppsspp?
