Hmmm strange, because it doesn't happen for me. :]
Entering item menu:

also on latest version(v0.9.6-683-g3249a9a x64 win). No hacks nor experimental options used.

Game does crash when trying to take a quest, but that seems to be a JIT error, can be avoided by turning JIT off.
Only partially through as instead of crash, without JIT the game will randomly freeze the camera(game still takes input etc.) without any errors in the log.(does show a warning about atrac3 stereo audio from time to time, that's probably not related, no other warnings or errors with JIT off)
