Try using a controller, for example wired Xbox 360 controllers are great and just work.

Most commercial keyboards suffer from "Ghosting": not all keys are registered when multiple keys are pressed at once.

Good keyboards, usually mechanical ones, feature "N-Key Rollover" meaning that you can press up to N keys simultaneously and all of these keys register correctly. The better mechanical keyboards allow all keys to be pressed at once and feature different types of key switches (soft, hard, fully pressed, e.t.c)
