RE: Possibilities Thread
gundams(or any large human-shaped mech) are too inefficient.
this means nobody will ever waste money on them. weapons like swords and spears aren't that effective against metal objects, while missile launchers and guns can be mounted on much cheaper vehicles(jets, helicopters, tanks, and in the future perhaps hovertanks) a mech might look cool, but military organizations aren't interested in cool. they want the best results for the lowest price. as for civilian projects, nobody has a budget big enough for a fully functioning mech and they wouldn't be able to give it any weapons. many things are technically possible right now, but just too expensive or dangerous. a primitive holodeck, sub-light starships, bipedal mechs, lunar colonies. the technology and materials required all exist for these, but currently the risks involved or the resources required are too high, while there's not enough gained from building any of these things. |
