Dangan-Ronpa: Kibou no Gakuen to Zetsubou no Koukousei - NPJH50372

I have looked through forums and issues but no one else seems to have encountered and documented this issue, so I was wondering if anyone knew what is going on and/or how to fix it.

so PPSSPP works great, and Dangan Ronpa does too...until I get to the menu screen.
   
Upon selecting "new game," this textless black box appears.
   
Then upon selecting "yes," (Note: Selecting "no" takes me back to start menu.)
   
It tells me there is no save data, as there should be because I am creating a new game. However I cannot create a new game because with each attempt it tells me there is no save data.
