I think it was abandoned and it was never optimised properly. It still works OK.

If you check the Paulscode forums, one of the developers joined in a conversation about it. He says it's still in development, just that the main developer doesn't want to release it until he feels it's perfect, and even posted a few videos of a build that looks like it far exceeds the leaked alpha build. But the videos have been taken down and there's been no word since.

I really enjoy people when the believe in crap like that and the "supposed" serious developers that say that crap too. (vomit)
