Ad-Hoc on non-wifi computer?

My spouse and I are new to PPSSPP and trying to play Peace Walker together, but we're running into various difficulties. We have:

One computer without a wireless card, connected to internet through the router
One computer connected to wi-fi, can connect through ethernet cable
One old PSP that can no longer connect to wifi (and is apparently the wrong model to Ad hoc with PPSSPP)

We've looked into the documentation and various troubleshooting discussions, but found nothing for whether Ad hoc can work on a wired connection. We've gone through the steps on hrydgard's multiplayer guide, but the wired computer is never able to find the server. Is it possible to use Ad hoc with our current setup? If not, what is the simplest method for us to look into to play together?
