Just posting here to say this:

The US version codes seem 100% nonsensical. Codes for 999 max HP are useless in a game where the max HP is 9,999, and the rest of the spell level and equipment level codes just don't work right. I used them and only a couple weapons like spears and shield on Firion were set to 11 (max is 16).

That said, just putting all the max HP/MP/Stats/Spell Levels/Equipment Levels codes from the JP version under the US header worked perfectly, and the codes indicating "Leon" correspond to the 4th party member regardless of who it is. Incredibly useful in cutting out the grind because only after getting Ricard did I learn there is character-specific optional equipment in the bonus dungeons.
