The way I play is if the game freezes in the part of what my sim is doing, I'd restart the game and do a different action. I had a theory that if you tried to do the same action that made the game freeze, it will always freeze in that part so I change my actions all the time, though it's tiring but maybe if you've got the patience you'll get used to this method.
