Registering just to say thank you all for the helpful tips which helped me finish the game. I'm using build v1.4.2-215-g3f8ccf4 and the infamous X button bug is still present, but there's a workaround to that. As FilipeKun had said, press Select + Square during a match (or just Select during a mission) and if no prompt appears asking if you'd like to quit, then you're stuck. The workaround is to always Save the State before entering a match or doing a mission. In case it's bugged, Load the State then watch a character event in Story Mode. After that, retry whatever you were going to do before.
