If I remember, that problem has been linked to using cheats in the past. Remember that if you turn on a cheat even for a second, it can break things, and save states will keep those things broken.

Try saving in game, make sure all cheats and hacks are off, and load the save without using save states.

You can also try turning off "fast memory" in settings, which might be a bit slower but may not crash when it hits this issue.
