I've had the same problem. I'm still getting a crash on PPSSPP Ver 1.2.2 during the first level as well. I'll see if any of the older fixes do anything. Is the "use an already complete playthrough save game" fix confirmed as still working?

Edit 2: Nevermind. Using both the lower FPS cap and the lower CPU count worked!
