RE: GPD XD compared with nintendo N3DS
You forgot
Companies actively developing software tailored to the specific hardware (3DS or GPD XD) GPD XD: 0 3DS: too lazy to count them all but well over 100 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_..._3DS_games -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- But this is the difference between a computer like object (GPD XD, the shield portable, android/ios/windows tablet, a phone, ect) and a dedicated console (psp, nintendo ds, 3ds, xbox, ect). Computer hardware and extra functionality will always be more flexible and higher spec at any given price point. Consoles will always be able to use low level access and uniformity of components to create experiences that would take 3-20x the processing on a more generalized device. The biggest downside to GPD XD is simply there 100 (if I am being really really really really really generous) native android based full games that are not simple puzzle types or iap driven money sinks. (Nature of the platform I guess) and less then 20 (again being really generous here) new games of that type (not rereleases) The Nintendo 3ds has over 500 if you remove re releases and simple puzzle games from it. Android based systems do have emulators, but generally there are no new gsmes comming out for emulated systems (pier solar, and a few others are very rare exceptions to this rule). To be fair if you did take the catalogue of just games that the GPD XD can emulate at an experience close to or even better then the way the game was originally made to be played (so no 15fps frame skip of 8 games, or messed up graphics, or asinine control schemes, ect emulator flaws) there are well over 10,000 games available (going pretty low end here). They just won't be new games. Also side note you are comparing a new device to one based on technology from 4 years ago a slightly more fair processor of the time would be the tegra 3. Which is still better then the n3ds but also based around the same time frame. |
