PPSSPP poor performance on Galaxy S4

Hello. I'm new to android emulation and I feel like I have hit a wall with ppsspp gold on my Galaxy S4. It's an SCH I545 with a Snapdragon 600 and Adreno 320. It seems that no matter what settings I tweak or what guides I follow (including solarmystic's which hasnt been updated in a long time) the performance of my games are terrible.

So far I've tried Medievil Resurrection and I cant get past 20 FPS, while mostly hitting the teens. Speed is at 100%.

Daxter is about the same and Metal Gear Acid is semi playable, GTA VCS is fubar.

Help?
