It will one day. Right now there's issues with the video memory because N8 only has 32MB VRAM and Jetpack Joyride abuses textures.

While the N8 has way more dedicated VRAM than most devices, it can't share system RAM like the others. So, for eg. PowerVR SGX530 has 4MB VRAM but can steal 128MB from the system RAM and that makes Jetpack Joyride playable.

Meanwhile 600/603/700/701/808 have 128MB deicated VRAM Wink similar to Playstation Vita. Just a far weaker CPU.

so, what's your prediction about the performance that a nokia N8 will be able to achieve with next updates? Smile

N8 will be able to play Jetpack Joyride perfectly as it is only a Mini. Not saying when though.

Yea i know it will surely. Just look how much you've done so far since the emulator dropped. Now heard about it but I mean the progress has been breath-taking. Continue doin the good work, n i'm sure it has been said already, but given that all other have abandoned symbian (in terms of developers n even nokia!), you are the last hope for Symbianity (Symbian + humanity) Big Grin

My cousin has like hundreds of mini games on his psp. Im thinking about like testing a few. I saw the list with like 30 games or so that were posted earlier for the n8, with like paper wars and alien zombie death. These games work because they what, don't abuse textures, or don't have too much goin on on the screen? SOmething so? Just looking for a lil direction as to which additional mini games cud work on the n8. By the way a few on that list don't even work for me, like apache overkill and paper wars for sure

Maybe because it´s a game that doesnt abuse too much of textures.

It's a Mini, like Jetpack Joyride. But yes, it doesn't abuse textures.

The texture handling in PPSSPP isn't that great yet.

Why are our textures so much bigger?
The PSP console used many tricks to fit these textures in to video RAM (of only 2MB!). One of them includes using paletted textures. These are incredibly small but mobile phones can't do these. Instead, in PPSSPP we create a full blown 32-bit texture when a paletted texture is requested. The difference is that we create an enormous texture and the PSP would have not even noticed it.
This fills up the N8's 32MB VRAM (of which only about 25MB is available) very quickly!

This can definitely be optimised!

Why did Nokia not allow the GPU to share system RAM?
This was because the N8 had a huge amount of video RAM at the time. 32MB was the biggest you could find on a mobile device. At the same time, the iPhone 4 had NO video RAM.
So, on the N8, the 256MB RAM was used for applications only. Meanwhile on the iPhone 4, 192MB of RAM was dedicated for applications and 64MB could be used for the GPU.

Note: 64MB still isn't enough for Jetpack Joyride but phones with 512MB RAM typically shared 128MB with the GPU.

The Nokia 700/701/808 resolved this issue by having dedicated video RAM of 128MB. It still doesn't use any of the (now 512MB) system RAM but it doesn't need to.

Thanks for clearing that up Sach. So it's all about textures. Cool!!! As soon as the month is up n my exams are thru, i'll try ever single game my cousin has and see which ones aren't texture-crazy!!!!!!!

RE: PPSSPP Symbian Port
Perhaps this idea can not be implemented, but playing on the emulator I more often thought of to bring the quick launch games icons in the smartphone menu.
What do you think about this?

:O How could yo know what i was thinking about Big Grin
well, a folder named ppsspp, inside it the emulator and shortcuts to the games, you open a game and the emulator loads the last known locatio of the game file.
But this is not so important and wont affect the user experience that much Undecided
