GPU Question
* hey..
* i'm planning to buy my 3rd phone (probably still for game testing) * and some phones caught my attention, that still on the budget-friendly category PHP 8,000-11,000 ( i don't know in USD, hehe ) * and since ppsspp rely on gpu and not other things.. * i just want to ask which is better gpu. * phones i saw are all Powered with 1.2-1.5ghz Quadcore processor 1 and 2gb of Ram * 18mp main camera, 8mp front, and all goodness of androids ( but i'm not a photographer, i'm a gamer ) *except they differ in gpu + PowerVR SGX 544MP + Adreno 305 + Mali-400MP2 * which do you think will perform better? I don't think i can give propely choice cause i just buy this
http://www.gsmarena.com/asus_zenfone_5-5952.php Z2560 one CPU : Dual-core 1.6 GHz GPU : PowerVR SGX544MP2 So far i test it Monster Hunter Portable 3rd can hit 100% with 2-3 frameskip 1x rendering (same as my laptop though it 2x) powervr got problem with graphic stuff with non buffered with Buffered render is all fine other stuff is fine for me :3 dunno about adreno and mali XD I worse write english so take easy on me (even my own language realy bad T_T) Rig to test now : Windows 8 64 bit (Laptop) Intel® Core™ i3-3110M (2.4GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) Nvidia GT720M 2GB |

RE: GPU Question
Well, I don't know much about the strengths of those GPUs and performance. But I do know there are hacks in PPSSPP that mean that some games simply will not display correct graphics on PowerVR. But that will only affect some games.

That hack you mention it already turn on as default? cause I don't liked lose some graphic over speed frameskip 3 is enough at least my phone. RE: GPU Question
There is no way to disable the hack I'm talking about. It simply nerfs any != alpha test (we optimize out != 0 which is the most common of these.) Also, alpha test is compared in a more lossy way and is more likely to compare incorrectly (but was broken entirely when we tried to compare it more directly, I think because it was forcing a lowp float.) This also affects color tests.
There's also the alpha test hack, which disables alpha testing entirely. That one you can change in settings. -[Unknown] |

RE: GPU Question
I have phone equipped with powerVR gpu and doesn't look too good. All my racing games are unplayable because tranparent textures. If you want you can look at the thread which I've opened because fo these glitches:

RE: GPU Question
* Laska, PowerVR 540 (Series 5) was released on Nov.2007,
* while 544 ( Series 5XT ) was released on june.2010 * hmmm.. maybe they did some graphic improvements in the past 3 years? what do you think? * i have my old buddy Adreno 203, which i used for about a year playing different psp games, and doesn't seem to show graphic errors, (i haven't tried racing games) * thus, Adreno seem to have problems with speed * i don't have mali device now, don't know if it's a better option * @[Unknown] Disable Alpha Test is an Ultimate speed booster for adreno, don't know why. * bad thing is it transforms some things into Square-shaped objects * will it do the same for powervr? RE: GPU Question
I also have sony xperia pro with adreno 205 gpu -it is very slow but didn't confront transparent textures issue. On my current phone I can play most of games in native psp resolution but because of this textures problem I simply don't know where I'm going in racing games (my favourite genre).
Yes, Disable Alpha Test causing that square-shapped object appearing around trees, bushes and others objects in enviroment. My Android device: Motorola XT894 JB 4.1.2 (debloated stock) GPU: PowerVR SGX 540 DualCore Cortex A9 1,2 gHz (overclocked to 1404 mHz) RAM: 1gb |

Just a Miracle-cure for some glitches (Persona3, 3rdBirthday, etc) I have a 1Ghz dual-core Device with PowerVR SGX540 GPU, And I can Play MosterHunter3rdHD @100% with 1-2frameskip, "disable alpha test unchecked" [yes, it makes annoying glitches when checked(2d objects that supposed to have a transparent parts will show as opaque) alpha channels) PowerVR->more Glitches, but Faster Than ADRENO Adreno ->Some said it's slow due to incompatibility with PPSSPP. Rumor said that SamsungGalaxyS2 perform better than higher specs devices due to its GPU... RE: GPU Question
Devices with lower screen resolutions will perform better.
On my Adreno, for example, there's a huge difference between 1x and 2x. I only have a 720p screen. If I had a 1080p screen, "non buffered" rendering might be slower than 1x is with buffered rendering on. That's all about the fill rate. More pixels take more work to draw, and higher resolutions have more pixels. -[Unknown] |

RE: GPU Question
* so...
* PowerVR = Speed over Graphics? ( or maybe racing games are the only ones affected? ) ( not even sure why there are glitches?) is it solely because of gpu? or with ppsspp code too? * Adreno = Slower due to Incompatibility with ppsspp? but good graphics? ( i'd say yes, usually on RPGs, adreno seem to show all graphics ) * Mali? anyone? @ [Unknown] * lower res. = faster?? * then, having HD display ( 1280 × 720 ) is bad? * so... NoMone Res. RE: GPU Question
Yeah, there's the potential that using a hardware scaler may improve this for high-res devices. Unfortunately, I can't confirm since my device is 720p.
I know Malis in the past had issues with some of our shaders, but this seems to be mostly gone with software skinning. -[Unknown] |

RE: GPU Question
* hmmm..
* maybe qHD (540 × 960) is enough, for HD or FHD might just be slower and more power consuming.. * i found one. An IPS qHD, Quadcore 1gbRAM, PowerVR SGX 544MP GPU. * this one's the best.. i guess.. * ( though i wanted to try MALI too ) * maybe next time, for my 4th phone * thanks for infos, my friends..
