MH:F Transfer Character
Hi all.

I did some research on the PSP MH:F to MH:F2 character transfer and see how its supposed to work, but I can't get it to work in PPSSPP. Does anyone know what I have to do? From what I read MH:f2 should ask if you wish to import your character from MH:F1 when you create a new account, but I get no such message.

I also tried importing MH:F2 to MH:FU via FU's import option, but it says there are no MH:F2 save games on the memstick, yet there is.

If anyone has any info, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,
John

RE: MH:F Transfer Character
Are you using the same region of the game to import your save into the next game? Those games are pretty picky about requiring the same region saves to continue/import. Basically, are both your MH:F and MH:F2 games both European, both American, both Japanese, both Asian, etc.? You can't mix and match under normal circumstances and still have it work.

You know, I thought about that. Is there a way to tell if the ISO is US/EU/JP?

Thanks,
John

RE: MH:F Transfer Character
What are the game IDs of the games you're using? If you're on Windows, it'll be in the title bar when you boot the game, in a format like ULUSXXXXX, where XXXXX are a bunch of numbers, and the ULUS might change. If you're on android or something else, press and hold on the game icon in the main UI and it should bring up a menu which shows the info as well.

RE: MH:F Transfer Character
Thanks for the HEADS UP! I have MH:F and MH:FU ULES, but MH:F2 ULUS. That's gotta be the problem. Now to try and find a MH:F2 ISO from the ULES (EU I take it).

Thanks,
John

RE: MH:F Transfer Character
You could try a trick and see if renaming your game's save folder to ULUS instead of ULES helps, but it might not have any effect (some games don't care, but some do), instead of having to dump a different region of the game.

RE: MH:F Transfer Character
OK. So I'm getting closer. I found an EU version of MH:F2 and ran it. It sees the MH:F save file and asks if I wish to import. I say yes, but then it gives me a corrupted file error. I launched MH:F again to see if the file was indeed corrupt, but it is not as it loads fine in MH:F. Any ideas what might be the problem here?

BTW, thanks for the previous advice. I'm closer now to transferring my character to MH:F2.

RE: MH:F Transfer Character
If that's the case, then it's probably really specific about needing a save from the proper region of the game. I know you can convert MHFU saves to 2nd G and vice versa, but I'm not sure if anyone's tried doing it on the older games. Maybe ask over at Minegarde if anyone's done it?

Apparently this tool can help you Smile
Unfortunately my current skills in Python are not enough to understand it and build it Sad

RE: MH:F Transfer Character
Everything I found so far requires a real PSP. Too bad there isn't an app or plugin for PPSSPP to allow save game conversions. I no longer have a PSP that has custom firmware so I can't fix the issue with my save file yet.

RE: MH:F Transfer Character
https://github.com/svanheulen/mhef doesn't require a PSP apparently.

RE: MH:F Transfer Character
I'm playing with it, but not getting much success so far.

I have Python 3.x installed.
