Question about original PSP hardware
#1
Do PSP games set their internal rendering resolution themselves? Or is it completely handled/done by the PSP itself? Along with other graphic effects like anti-aliasing, shadows/motion blur/bloom etc.?

I've always wondered this when emulating, why PPSSPP only multiples the rendering resolution by x2, x4, etc instead of native screen-matching resolutions like 2560x1440.

PSP games set a fixed internal resolution (usually 480x272), and the PSP hardware handles rendering at that resolution. Effects like anti-aliasing or blur are baked into the game itself. Emulators like PPSSPP upscale this internal resolution by integer factors (x2, x3...) for performance and accuracy. Non-integer scaling (like 1440p) can cause artifacts or blur, which is why it's avoided
