PPSSPP won't open (Win64)
I could really use some help guys. I can't get PPSSPP to even start. I downloaded the latest version for Windows right off the ppsspp.org homescreen (version 1.7.1). Installed the program directly to my desktop in a PPSSPP folder. When I try to open the programs with PPSSPPWindows64 or PPSSPPWindows nothing happens. I get the small loading circle on the mouse icon for maybe a second and then nothing. It's like the program crashes before anything can get started.
Not sure if this will be helpful but my setup is: Windows 10 64bit i7-2600k Nvidia GTX 1080 8GB DDR3 2133 Crucial 500gb SSD Can anyone help me do some troubleshooting? My PSP 1000 finally died after all these years, and I was hoping to finish Tactics Ogre. Thanks for any suggestions or help you can offer! (P.S. I can take a short video or some screenshots of me trying to open the application if that would be helpful.) |

RE: PPSSPP won't open (Win64)
Does it help to install the latest NVIDIA drivers?

RE: PPSSPP won't open (Win64)
I as well just tried to download it for a windows 10 system, and am getting the exact same problem. It seems to want to load after clicking it, you get the little load circle for a second, but the program itself never actually loads.
I installed it on a windows 7 machine a week ago and had zero problems. |

RE: PPSSPP won't open (Win64)
Seems like it must be a Windows 10 issue then. It all adds up.

RE: PPSSPP won't open (Win64)
Hey,
I've had a similar issue with PPSSPP in the latest version. For whatever reason it wasn't opening. Solution for me was manually searching for the new driver for my radeon RX580. It seems the autoupdate wasn't working. It was stuck at version 17.x. Latest one was 19.1.2. After deleting the old driver with DisplayDriverUninstaller in Win10 safe mode and installing the latest gpu driver, PPSSPP is running again finally! Hope that's helping some of you guys with the same issues! Cheers! |

I just signed up to search for this exact issue, having the same issue with the latest build. If I use the retroarch core of older version it loads fine.

RE: PPSSPP won't open (Win64)
Same thing happens for me; I bought the Gold version for Windows & unzipped it in a separate folder. It refuses to start
However the RetroArch core DOES work (thankfully)! My PC specs are these: Motherboard: Asus Strix Z270H Gaming CPU: Intel Core i5-7600K, 4200 MHz Windows 10 64bit Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB (6 GB) 16GB RAM All my games & emulators are on a 2TB HDD (windows on a separate SSD). I have the latest Nvidia graphics drivers installed & all the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables installed. Still it won't start! However I have a temporary solution which worked for me: I downloaded a slightly older version of PPSSPP: v1.7.1-252 and that one works just fine, exept for the "more settings"-option that crashes the program. So I've been using this version to play my games so far. Still a bit disappointing, thought the Gold version would solve the problem Anyway, I hope the issue gets solved eventually. I love the emulator so if anyone else have the same issue they might just try an older version or use the RetroArch core. |

RE: PPSSPP won't open (Win64)
POSSIBLE SOLUTION:
(Not guaranteed to work for everyone) If you're running Win10 and PPSSPP won't even launch for you: There's a high chance you either have or have had an AMD GPU. And it's likely causing the problem. Try running this tool, and after it's finished try relaunching PPSSPP again: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/gpu-601 If it asks to go into safemode, just click No. The issue isn't with PPSSPP itself, it's either AMD or Microsoft's fault. It has already worked for several users in our Discord server. Come and join the official PPSSPP Discord server: https://discord.gg/5NJB6dD |

RE: PPSSPP won't open (Win64)
I can confirm that Abbanon's solution above WORKS! I had an AMD GPU before I switched to Nvidia and I thought I had get rid of all old AMD drivers & files, but that handy tool did the trick just fine! So now I can enjoy the full throttle of the latest version! I'm so happy!

RE: PPSSPP won't open (Win64)
I have a similar problem, except the app does open but it immediately goes black and crashes with windows having to close it.
I have no knowledge on this, so excuse me if this is a dumb question, but would using this harm my pc? AMD is my original graphics program (?) and since I know nothing about this, I tried installing NVIDIA GeForce but it isn't compatible. Also, the crashing only happens with the extracted ppsspp but not its "ppsspp... .exe" form, but I don't want to risk losing any data. |
