Star Ocean First Departure - Black screen during gameplay

I've no idea what the problem might be, it's the first PPSSPP game I've encountered that's not working for me (I've played a few).

The game boots up fine and the first two cutscenes play without any problems, but I'm getting black screen right after the 2nd scene finishes playing, i.e. when the gameplay starts.

Will appreciate any help I can get, thnx !

What video backend are you using?

Alright I was using OpennGL, but after reading your post I switched backends

With Vulkan, the game doesn't boot up at all.. like dragging & dropping the ISO and getting black screen -- not even those two intro cutscenes, heck not even the Square Enix logo or the title screen -- zero zip nada zilch.

But with Direct3D11, it... WORKS flawlessly !!!! Thnx a lot Asferot !!!
