Xbox 360 wireless controller D-Pad will not work on Android

I am having trouble using my official wireless xbox 360 controller with PPSSPP with my android phone. I am using the official wireless dongle and the USB otg cable. For the record, I have tried 2 different official xbox controllers, with the same results.

All the buttons are configured properly except the D-Pad. When I try and manually set them, the configured button appears as "pad1.??". It treats all 4 sides of the d-pad as the same "pad1.??" , so I either have the option of pressing all of the d-pad buttons or none of them.

I also cannot reconfigure either analog stick. Trying to map a button to either analog stick results in the button always being "pad1.Z Axis -".

How can I get my xbox controllers' dpads to register correctly with PPSSPP?
